HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of Ruler in Western Region and Chairman of the UAE Foreign Assistance Coordination Office (FACO), has lauded the financial grant of Dh36.8 million, donated by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Comoro Islands.
The grant, which is aimed to support the developmental process in Comoro Islands, constitutes the fifth of the annual budget in that country.
Sheikh Hamdan said the move comes in line with the directives of the UAE President, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to boost stability and development in the sisterly and friendly countries.
"The new financial grant reflects the UAE position on the international humanitarian map and reiterates the international commitment to achieve sustainable development in Comoro Islands", he added.
Many institutions and charity bodies in the UAE have been in recent decades providing the humanitarian and developmental aid to Comoro Islands, among others, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Developmental and the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charity Foundation.
The data shows the UAE aid to Comoro Islands exceeded AED90million, including the recent donation of the UAE President.
FACO was set up by the UAE government to support and coordinate UAE-based donor organisations that provide assistance for humanitarian activities and emergency relief worldwide. FACO documents foreign aid, raises the UAE profile and helps shape international humanitarian agenda. It conducts analysis and researches on the sector, develops and recommends policies, builds individual and organisational capacities to minimise redundancy. FACO improves quality and maximises the impact of the UAE's international development and humanitarian aid programmes. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
