The UAE is currently undertaking massive infrastructure projects at par with international best practices thanks to the sound directives by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and close follow up of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, according to H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region.
Sheikh Hamdan made his remarks while inaugurating yesterday the Ras Ghamis-Gaga Island bridge in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi. The project is one of the major projects the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (DoT) is carrying to upgrade its road and transport infrastructure under Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 which recognises the importance of transport in shaping the future of the metropolitan area. The Department commissioned the Surface Transport Master Plan (STMP) to translate into reality the broad principles and concepts outlined for the transport sector in the Plan Abu Dhabi 2030. 'The opening of the bridge keeps pace of progress Abu Dhabi is experiencing in the social, economic and cultural life and is maintaining aesthetic, environmental and sustainability values in the Emirate in line with Plan 2030 which seeks to position Abu Dhabi one of the world's best metropolitans,' Sheikh Hamdan added.
The 2.6 kilometre long waterway has a water bridge stretching 520 metres and a dual road of two lanes of 3 metres wide. The DoT commenced construction of the bridge in the third quarter of 2010. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
