Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Society yesterday ordered provision of emergency aid to the people affected by the current developments witnessed in Lebanon. Sheikh Hamdan instructed the RCS to quickly move to the Lebanese arena and to help victims of the escalating developments there.

Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi, Board Chairman of the RCS, said that they have already proceeded with providing assistance to the people in the worst-hit cities and villages, in coordination with the UAE embassy in Beirut and the Lebanese Red Cross Society.

"For the time being, RCS purchases relief materials from the local market in Lebanon. We also contemplate dispatching truck-loads of aid when flights to Beirut are back to normalcy," Al Suweidi added. He appealed to all philanthropists and community members to give hand to the RCS efforts. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
