Hamdan bin Zayed receives Dominican's Foreign Relations Minister

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) received in Abu Dhabi yesterday Carlos Morales Troncoso, Minister of Foreign Relations of the Dominican Republic.

Sheikh Hamdan stressed the need for coordination among the RCA, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the Dominican's Red Cross, to ensure flow of relief to Haiti, and to help rebuild capacities of the Haitian Red Cross Society.

He said that the UAE had always spear-headed aid provision to the countries hit by natural calamities and crises.

"The UAE will spare no effort in easing the suffering of the people everywhere and in strengthening partnership with international organisations and NGOs in the humanitarian fields," he added.

For his Part, Troncoso expressed thanks to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for ordering the immediate dispatch of relief materials to Haiti after it was struck by a devastating earthquake last Tuesday.

Earlier, Troncoso discussed with the RCA officials means to dispatch aid to the people affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

The officials were briefed by the Minister on the situation in Haiti, saying that foodstuff, medicine and sheltering items were the most important relief materials needed there. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
