H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, Chairman of Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), has stressed the UAE's humanitarian commitment towards issues of the refugees worldwide.

He added that the UAE would provide innovative solutions to address the suffering of the refugees, citing that the UAE initiatives boost international humanitarian action to alleviate suffering of the refugees and preserve their dignity.

Sheikh Hamdan said in statement on World Refugees Day, which corresponds with Saturday 20th June, that the UAE plays an instrumental role to sponsor a large number of refugees and displaced as well as build their capacities to overcome the suffering, thanks to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

He noted that the UAE initiatives in the area of sponsorship and protection of the refugees focus on encouraging voluntary return of the refugees to their home countries, and provision of what it takes to ensure their stability in their original areas.

Sheikh Hamdan said the reports issued by competent international organisations revealed that four million Syrian refugees fled their country, and 95 per cent of them have become refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey and Egypt. He commended the role of these countries in hosting the refugees.

He urged donors to meet their responsibilities to address humanitarian challenges being faced by the refugees. http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395282120399.html
