Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, has reiterated the UAE's commitment to helping Lebanon overcome its current plight following the latest Israeli atrocities.

Sheikh Hamdan, who is also the Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Society "RCS", was briefed yesterday on the situation in Lebanon when he received Khalifa Nassir Al Suwaidi, RCS Board Chairman, Sana'a Darweish Al Kutbi, Secretary General, and Dr. Saleh Al Ta'ei, head of RCS mission to Lebanon.

Sheikh Hamdan voiced the UAE's solidarity with the brotherly people of Lebanon, and called for continued support to help the Lebanese recover from their present ordeal.

Sheikh Hamdan hailed the noble gestures by President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who ordered continued support to help reconstruct and rehabilitate a number of medical institutions in southern Lebanon that had been damaged during the Israeli attacks.

On his part, Al Suwaidi said they had briefed Sheikh Hamdan on RCS relief programme, which so far exceeded Dh36 million. "The programme involved an air bridge of 35 planes that delivered thousands of tonnes of basic relief supplies, while an RCS ship delivered 2500 tonnes of foodstuff", he said. "Rescue operations also covered tens of thousands Lebanese who fled to Syria in the wake of the Israeli attacks", he added. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
