Hamdan meets Japanese MPs

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, received at his residence in Tokyo yesterday a number of Japanese Parliamentarians as part of his visit to this North East Asian country. He held separate meetings with Hisaoki Kamei, MP and deputy chairman of the Japan-UAE Friendship Committee, Talo Kono, MP and Takayoshi Taniguchi, MP.



During the meetings they reviewed the Committee's activities and proposals on means of enhancing Japan-UAE relations. Sheikh Hamdan thanked the members of the Committee for their Efforts to boost friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The Committee was established in October 2000 under the chairmanship of former Japanese Prime Minister Reyutaro Hashimoto.



Earlier, Sheikh Hamdan received Keiichiro Okabe, President of Cosmo Oil Co., and Deputy Chairman of the Japan-UAE Society, who thanked the UAE for its pledge to supply Japan with its crude oil needs. The Deputy Prime Minister underlined the importance of the role played by the Society in cementing his country's ties with Japan, particularly in economy, trade, industry and investment.



Cosmo Oil is the company that buys UAE's oil and refines it in Japan. Sheikh Hamdan urged the Committee to exert more efforts for the broadening cooperation between the two countries. The Japan-UAE Society was formed in 1973 as a gesture by Japanese oil companies in appreciation of the stances of President H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
