GENEVA: Dr. Hanif Hassan Al Qassim, Chairman of the Geneva Centre's Board of Management, has met with Michael Moller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, and Ms. Charlotte Warakaulle, Chief of the Political Affairs, External Relations and Inter-Agency Affairs Section at the Office of the Director-General. The aim of the meeting was to discuss areas of cooperation and ways to enhance human rights promotion and protection, especially through activities and events dedicated to global dialogue.

Dr. Hanif Al-Qassim provided with an overview of the Geneva Centre, its current and upcoming programmes, including two main studies directly related to the work of the United Nations mechanisms. He also briefed on the preparation for an international conference on "Practical measures to combat religious intolerance, negative stereotypes, stigmatization, discrimination and incitement to violence", to be held, in in collaboration with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, in one of the European capitals early next year, and attended by high representatives from governments, international and non-governmental organizations. The Chairman also touched upon the forthcoming training programmes, as well as the cooperation agreements that have been signed with a number of important institutions and international institutes in Switzerland.

Moller, in turn, acknowledged the importance of the work and efforts made by the Geneva Centre since its creation, and emphasized the relevance of its vision and objectives, which are in line with the agenda pursued by the United Nations, particularly as regards to global dialogue and human rights.

The two parties agreed upon different issues, notably the inclusion of the Geneva Centre in the list of partners of the United Nations Office at Geneva, as well as the organization of a number of joint activities and conferences. An example is provided, in particular, by the celebration of the World Poetry Day in July 2015, which will be held, under the banner of the promotion of tolerance, justice and peace, in collaboration with Ville de Genève, the World Poetry Forum and the Office of the United Nations Director-General.

Furthermore, the two sides agreed that the Director-General would contribute to the Geneva Centre's upcoming training programmes by receiving and giving lectures to the participants. Moller also agreed to allow the Geneva Centre to access the United Nations library, which also hosts relevant panel discussions on various human rights issues.
