Hazza bin Zayed honours the winners of Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Vice Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, honoured the winners of the fourth edition of Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance in a ceremony held yesterday evening at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

The ceremony was attended by H.H Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H.H Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, H.H Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs (ZHO), and a number of Sheikhs, officials and heads of government entities, in addition to a large number of employees of Abu Dhabi government.

On this occasion, Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, addressed the audience and gave the speech of the Government of Abu Dhabi.

H.H Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan honoured the entities, projects, and individuals who won the three categories of the award, namely, the first category (the main award/ the sub-awards/ the excellence incentives awards), the second category (project/teams awards), and the third category (Chairman of the Executive Council medal).

His Highness honoured the winners of the Chairman of the Executive Council medals; Dr. Abdullah Essa Zamzam of the Environment Agency -Abu Dhabi (EAD), who won the long-service "Dedicated Employee" medal dedicated to employees who have worked for more than 20 years in the government of Abu Dhabi, and Dr. Sheikha Salem Al Dhaheri of the Environment Agency -Abu Dhabi (EAD), who won the "Executive Director" medal.

In addition, Dr. Hamid Ali Al Kendi, of the Environment Agency -Abu Dhabi (EAD), won the medal of "Excellent employee in the administrative supervision field", dedicated to employees from different administrative levels who perform supervision roles. Noura Fahad Al Zaabi, of the Abu Dhabi's Regulation and Supervision Bureau (RSB), won the medal of "Excellent Employee in the Administrative Support Field", dedicated to employees who perform administrative work while assuming no leading position.

As for the "Distinguished Employee" medal in the specialised field, an award dedicated to all specialised professionals, it was awarded to Dr. Abdul Majeed Breik Al Zubaidi, of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), whereas the "Distinguished Employee medal in the Technical Field", an award allocated to technical professionals, was awarded to Mohamed Abdullah Al Kathiri, of Etihad Airways.

Given the importance of the field of customer service in achieving the goals of the Abu Dhabi government to raise the quality and integrity of the governmental services provided to the public, the medal of "the Excellent Employee in Supervisory Customer Service" was awarded to Jassim Abdulrahman Al Ali, of the Department of Transport. As for the "Excellent Employee Medal in non-Supervisory Customer Service", it was awarded to Maitha Rashid Al Shamsi, of the Department of Economic Development.

When it came to the site field award, which is dedicated to all the employees of Abu Dhabi government whose job specifications require fieldwork, the "Excellent Employee medal in the site field" was awarded to Fatima Hassan Al Baloushi, of Al-Ain Municipality. Asmaa Mustafa Al Shanqeeti, of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, won the "Excellent New Employee" Medal, dedicated to all fresh outstanding employees in Abu Dhabi Government, who have worked from six months and two years and a half in their entities.

As regards the second category awards for projects and teams, which includes five awards related to ensuring the application of best practices in project management and team excellence, "the Reading and Remote Control of Smart Meters" project, of Al Ain Distribution Company, won the transformational strategic projects / teams award. The US Customs office and border patrol project at Abu Dhabi International Airport, presented by Abu Dhabi Airports Company, won the outstanding projects / teams award, which focuses on projects presented by more than one governmental entity. This project was implemented in cooperation with the Department of Transport and Etihad Airways, and in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Finance, and other contributing parties.

The Excellent technical project /team award was awarded to the "project of developing the strategic transport model" of Abu Dhabi Department, presented by the Department of Transport. The excellent customer service project /team award was awarded to "the consultation services" project, presented by Al Ain Distribution Company. In the category of the excellent internal improvement project /team, "the performance management utilising the behaviour of winners" project, of Etihad Airways, won the award.

First Category Awards Fifty one government entities in Abu Dhabi competed over the first category awards, which include the excellence incentives awards, sub-awards, in addition to the main awards, which is the highest award at the level of Abu Dhabi government.

Excellence incentives awards include five awards reflecting the priorities of the Abu Dhabi government. The Abu Dhabi Education Council won the "Excellence in Knowledge Management" award, which is awarded to the entity that provides tools for knowledge management, spreading, employment, investment and utilisation. The "Emiratisation Award", which is awarded to the entity that plans and implements building the competencies and capabilities of Emiratis, and encourage the engagement of Emirati employees and developing their abilities to prepare future leaders, which would ultimately contribute to promoting the sustainability of Abu Dhabi, was awarded to Al Ain Municipality.

Abu Dhabi ports won the "Financial Excellence" Award, which addresses the best practices in financial planning. The E-excellence Award, which is designed to promote the concept of e-government and support the objectives of the Government of Abu Dhabi, was awarded to Abu Dhabi Retirement Pensions & Benefits Fund. Meanwhile, the award for "excellence in risk management and business sustainability", launched to consolidate the risk management and business sustainability culture, by identifying, evaluating, managing, controlling and addressing risks, was awarded to Etihad Airways.

Sub- Awards Sub awards focus on key areas in the institutional system to support excellence. The excellence in leadership award, which went to Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, reflects the importance of leadership and its role in inspiring and building a culture of excellence, in addition to realising the vision and mission of the entity, leading it to reach its set goals and sustain its performance.

The "excellence in services provision" award, which was launched to ensure that customers satisfaction is at the centre of the government work, by providing government services at a level that meets the needs of its customers and exceed their expectations with the optimal use of resources, was awarded to Al Ain Distribution Company.

The "excellence in developing human resources" award, which focuses on the human element and supports its primary role in the working system, by providing care, development and appreciation to all employees, was awarded to Etihad Airways.

To honour the entities that achieved a quantum leap in their performance, as compared to the previous edition, Abu Dhabi ports was honoured by being awarded the "excellence in improving performance" award for achieving an exceptional leap, and turning from a beginner excellence, reaching excellence and exceeding the rating of an excellence- applying entity to the rating of an entity affected by excellence.

The second entity, which managed to achieve a quantum leap in its results since the third edition of the award, and reach the level of the excellence- applying entity in the fourth edition, winning "the excellence in improving performance" award, was Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC).

The main award given to the entity that achieves the highest levels of performance, thus reflecting the concept of Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance, and is thereupon considered the most distinguished entity in the Abu Dhabi government, was awarded to Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation.

To highlight the importance of the award, Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, stated in his speech on behalf of Abu Dhabi government, that : "The vision of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan - May God save and bless him – and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Executive Council to intensify efforts and strengthen capacities so as to maintain the achievements that have been previously made and move forward towards achieving development and growth require us to continue making further progress and maintain our leadership and standing."

He added that, "The essence of Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance aims at enhancing, developing and improving the performance so as to keep pace with the vision and aspirations of the wise leadership that considers the improvement of the performance as the best way to continue achieving comprehensive development. The Award is also seen as a motivating factor for various entities to ensure positive competition and improve the achievements at both the institutional and individual levels".

The Secretary General of the Executive Council pointed out that ten years have passed since the launch of the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance, during which it proved to be a significant tool in the development of the work system in the Government of Abu Dhabi, while acting as a platform for excellence that the competing parties struggle to reach. He stressed that the sustainability of the improvement and development of performance systems and institutional work in the governmental departments in Abu Dhabi require continuous hard work, having an insight into the prospects of the future, and efficiently working on drawing the features of tomorrow.

The Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance is one of the effective governmental tools intended to develop institutional working mechanisms, raise the quality of performance, and improve the capabilities of personnel in government entities in order to qualify them to reach top-notch levels in service and management fields. It further serves to entrench a culture of excellence, high quality and transparency among managers and employees, and contribute to improving the government working system. – Emirates News Agency, WAM -
