Kuwait - The Heads of Parliaments in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states have ratified the Parliamentary Committee's draft statute on Coordination and External Relations.

The two-day meeting of the heads of parliaments and Shura Councils started yesterday in Kuwait to further enhance the parliamentary march in the member countries.

Speaker of the UAE's Federal National Council (FNC) HE Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) shortly after the session that almost 80 percent of the proposals presented by FNC on the draft statute have been adopted.

He noted that the Commission's task is to coordinate and prepare plans and study the agenda of the regular meeting of the heads of parliaments as well as coordination with Arab and foreign parliaments in matters of common interest.

Al Ghurair stressed that the role of parliamentary meetings is to push the GCC joint action forward, and urged the parliamentary institutions to support this trend charted by the leaders of GCC states in the best interests of the citizens.

He also said that the role of parliaments in GCC states will be strengthened also through the enactment of laws on the level of each state or through general legislation on the level of the GCC countries in the future. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
