Hijri New Year celebrated

Dr Hamdan bin Musalam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Awqaf (GAIAA), attended a ceremony held to celebrate the new Hijri year at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque on Sunday evening.

The event was attended by a number of senior officials, dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps and scholars. The event's emcee, Dr Ahmed Al Musa, said in the opening speech that the late Sheikh Zayed had a great interest in the history of Holy Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and of Islam.

Dr Mohammed Matar Al Kaabi, Director General of the GAIAA, extended greetings on this auspicious day to the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, their highnesses the Supreme Council members and rulers of the emirates, General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and to UAE residents. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
