An Abu Dhabi-based think-tank centre said that the human rights issue is a core of the UAE development philosophy and is in tandem with the vision of President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. In its editorial today, the "Akhbar al Sa'a " newsletter, published by the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research, ECSSR, pointed out that the UAE " upholds a distinctive perspective with regard to measures needed to ensure that human rights are respected at the international level." The newsletter referred to the recent UAE address to the UN General Assembly which stressed the need not to have the human rights issue politicised and, rather, it should be kept within its humanitarian context. "The UAE's approach to the issue is of a universal nature since it is a set of political, economic, social and cultural rights," the ECSSR's newsletter noted. The newsletter reiterated that the UAE respects human rights taking into account the religious and cultural peculiarities. In this context, it added, the UAE's efforts and moves at various levels, to ease sufferings of victims of war, come to the fore as a sign of respect for human rights.
