Green Emirates Mobile Observatory has won commendation from Prof. Robert Williams, President, International Astronomical Union (IAU), for its impressive, voluntary awareness drive to educate people in the UAE about astronomical phenomena.

Prof. Williams made his remarks at an audience with Nizar Salam, Head and Founder of Green Emirates Mobile Observatory, on the sideline of the 28th General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), which was held recently in Beijing, China.

Salam was invited by the IAU and Chinese Academy of Sciences to present a paper on designing and building remote operated observatories and their role in spreading astronomical culture and knowledge.

Astronomers from around the world discussed the most recent discoveries about the universe at the IAU meeting.

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) was founded in 1919. Its mission is to promote and safeguard the science of astronomy in all its aspects through international cooperation. The IAU has 9892 Individual Members in 90 countries worldwide. Of those countries, 70 are National Members.

The IAU works to promote astronomical education and research in developing countries through its Program Groups on International Schools for Young Astronomers (ISYA), on Teaching for Astronomy Development (TAD), and on World Wide Development of Astronomy (WWDA), as well as through joint educational activities with NESCO. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
