The International Defence Exhibition IDEX 2009 concluded yesterday on a triumphant note with the total deals signed during the five-day event exceeding Dh18 billion.

The event hosted by Abu Dhabi was a great success in terms of representation of global firms specialising in defence industry and the participation of official delegations from various countries.

A record-breaking 897 companies from 50 countries and over 150 official delegations from around the world were in attendance at the exhibition spread over a 108,000 gross sqm facilitated by Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company, ADNEC in UAE's capital.

IDEX 2009 Spokesman Staff Major General Obaid Al Ketbi asserted the success of the event in attracting the largest number of world's defence manufacturers, who displayed their latest innovations.

The impressive presence of a number of national firms, who showcased products that could compete with world's top companies, made the event more distinguished, Al Ketbi added.

Several companies have already booked their space for the forthcoming edition of IDEX in 2011, reflecting their confidence and trust in the event, noted Al Ketbi.
