Immigration ban on re-entering the UAE lifted

Expatriates who leave their jobs or cancel their residence visas will no longer be banned by immigration authorities from re-entering the UAE, a senior Ministry of Interior official has told Gulf News. Earlier, when expatriates received a ban from the labour ministry, they would automatically get a ban stamped on their passports by immigration authorities as well, which would bar them from entering the UAE during the ban period.

However, the automatic immigration ban has now been done away with, according to Lieutenant Colonel Rashid Al Khidhar, Legal Advisor of the General Directorate of Naturalisation and Residence at the Ministry of Interior. Lt Col Al Khidhar said foreign workers leaving their jobs will no longer have an entry ban stamped on their passports, enabling them to re-enter the country on any type of visa, other than employment. The new rule is likely to come into force straight away, the official said. However, according to the new rule, if an employee has been banned by the labour ministry, he cannot work in the UAE during the ban period, but can enter the country nevertheless as a tourist.
