The inaugural Abu Dhabi Swimming Festival is due to take place along the capital's Corniche on October 16.

It is organised by The Professional Sports Group, under the patronage of Abu Dhabi Beaches and supported by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and UAE Swimming Association.

A prize of Dh5,000 is up for grabs for the winners of both the men's and women's 1.6 kilometre main event, the Waha Capital Mile. While a Business Class ticket to any Etihad European destination goes to the first men's and women's winner of the 700 metre Etihad Holidays Splash Dash from Heritage Village to the West Plaza. Swimmers of all ages and ability are invited to take part in the festival, which will showcase a mixture of thirteen open water individual and relay races from 7am to 10am.

Proceeds from each event's entry fee will be used to donate a brick to the Abu Dhabi Special Care Centre. The gesture will help the charity towards its target of five million bricks.

The Abu Dhabi Swimming Festival is just one in a series of events along the Corniche, including Wakestock and the WOMAD music festival that will benefit from the planned revamp of the capital's seafront into a major recreational tourist attraction with ultra-modern services and world-class standards in keeping with the Abu Dhabi Future Plan 2030.
