Indian Prime Minister receives Mohammed bin Rashid

New Delhi - Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh received yesterday H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai here at the Presidential Palace in the New Delhi.



A grand red carpet welcome was accorded to Sheikh Mohammed where he was ceremonially escorted by cavalry personnel to the lawns of the Presidential Palace. After performing the UAE and Indian National Anthems, Sheikh Mohammed inspected the guards of honour.



After being introduced to the members of the Indian cabinet ministers, Sheikh Mohammed paid a visit to the tomb of Mahatma Ghandi. He laid a wreath of flowers on the tomb and then observed a moment of silence then threw a bunch of flowers on the tomb according to Indian traditions.



In the book kept on site for comments by distinguished visitors, Sheikh Mohammed wrote a few lines in praise of India's national hero.



Later, Sheikh Mohammed held a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Shangri La Hotel in New Delhi. The meeting was attended by Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Department of Civil Aviation, Chairman of Emirates Airline, Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Economy, Khalfan bin Kharbash, Minister of State for Finance and Industry, Ali bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi, Minister of Labour, Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, other senior UAE officials.



At a business lunch held by Indian businessmen and investors in his honour, Sheikh Mohammed said his state visit to India is a further boost to the already deep and strong relations between the UAE and India.



Present at the luncheon were Indian Minister of Trade and Minister of External Affairs, officials and Ambassadors of Arab countries to India.



Sheikh Mohammed said this he will pay other visits to India in the future. Indian Minister of Trade said India takes pride in Sheikh Mohammed's visit. He further said "Sheikh Mohammed is a unique Arab leader who is well-known for his courageous stands for humanitarian, philanthropic and national causes." (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
