Indian media: UAE an important player on the international stage

New Delhi - The Indian media gave paramount attention to the UAE National Day as the country celebrated on Thursday the 39th anniversary of its formation.

Milap, a news daily in Urdu language, editorialised on Friday that the vision and the efforts of the UAE leaders have made the country an important player on the international stage.

"The United Arab Emirates is a country which has built its edifice of modernity on the bases of tradition, ancient history and Arabic pride. This is not an easy task. It is very often that in the race for modernisation the ancient traditions are sacrificed. It was the intelligence of the rulers of the country that the caravan of progress moved with strength and solidity. Now the U.A.E. is playing a very important role on the international stage" wrote Milap.

On the 2nd of December 1971 a country came into being in the Middle East with a lot of hopes for the future but it was beyond imagination as to the results created by those hopes. The position and identity acquired by the U.A.E. after 39 years today is an example in itself. The vision of the leaders of the country, in the past and present, is responsible for this achievement, the paper added.

When Britain announced that it is ending it's treaties with most of the Arab countries of the area, the majority realised that this could create problems for their base. At that time the ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan proposed the formation of United Arab Emirates to his fellow rulers. There was a gap of four years between the announcement by Britain and the actual identity of U.A.E. The efforts and the fine tuning undertaken during that time is a part of history, the paper recalled.

"The position of the U.A.E. can be judged from its influence in the world arena. The level reached by the country in economic sphere is excellent. The effect of the oil production cannot be overlooked but besides that the facilities created for trade in the international sector are praiseworthy. It is for this reason that the economic experts of the world have supported the U.A.E. as a centre for economic activity" said the paper.

There are special economic areas in the cities of U.A.E. which play host to the trade of the world. This has not happened automatically but is a result of the farsightedness of the country's rulers which have turned the blueprint of the future into a reality. The increase in the business is phenomenal and beyond imagination. The U.A.E. is being recognised as the centre for economy in the world. This is the main cause for the influence of the country, the paper added.

"It is creditable that the U.A.E. has not forced its influence in any way but has exercised it with dialogue and understanding of the other's point of view" stressed the paper.

"It is a common belief within the leaders of the world that any proposal by the U.A.E. should be considered with full seriousness and thought. This has made the U.A.E. into an important player in the international arena", it added.

It continued: The dream seen by Sheikh Zayed is now being fulfilled by the present ruler Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahayan. He has the support of all the rulers whether from Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah, Umm al Qawain, Ras al Khaimah or Ajman. The identity of U.A.E. is on brotherhood and togetherness. There is a shortage of these sentiments in today's world.

"Thus this can also be an example for the world", said Milap.

After 39 years of its formation the United Arab Emirates is showing the world a better way of conduct and is contributing towards world peace, it concluded. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
