Islamic World is in desperate need of an action plan towards Israel: UAE

Damascus - The Muslim World is in a desperate need of an action plan whose key axis is approaching international players, especially Europe, so as to affect possible change in Israel's policies and resolutions, a UAE MP told the extraordinary session of Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Countries' member states (PUIC) here yesterday.

'The Federal National Council (FNC) holds the view that the Islamic action plan should be base on three core pillars: First; a team of PUIC should be set up to conduct the necessary contacts with the speaker of European parliament to discuss Israeli violations regarding Jerusalem and Gaza amidst Israel's disregard to international resolutions the last of which was the EU -backed UN Security Council presidential statement on the formation of an international, neutral committee to investigate the Israeli hostile acts against the Freedom Flotilla, FNC member Yusouf Obeid Al Za'abi said while delivering the UAE address to the meeting held under the theme 'Breaking the Unfair Blockade on Gaza'.

He made it clear that Israel would replay its aggressions against any humanitarian aid convoys in the future, affirming that the international community will is still powerless and helpless and could not force Israel to bow to international legitimacy.

Speaking about the second pillars, the FNC member said ' Given the fact that PUIC is drawing representatives from various continents of the world, it's important for our plan to urge parliaments across the world to adopt a strong stance towards Israel.

'I suggest to you to launch a PUIC blueprint on the Arab-Israeli Conflict and then sell it to other regional and international parliamentary organisations. Parliaments are also required to strive on convincing their governments to take active stances against the Israeli policy, 'he explained.

The third pillar, he went on to say involves a request to governments of the Islamic countries through the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) to take all measures necessary to hold special session of the UN General Assembly on alliance for peace and issue an efficient mandatory resolution that could not face veto at the UN Security Council.

'Such a move should not seek more statements of condemnations by the UN General Assembly against Israel rather than demanding the UN to seek a legal opinion from the International Court of Justice on the legitimacy of the Gaza blockade in view of the international law. Until that happens, Israel should refrain from any hostile acts in breach of the international law and international humanitarian law, 'he added.

He stressed that the Islamic public opinion doesn't wait for statements of denunciation rather than an action plan towards other players to change Israeli positions.

Earlier, Speaker of the Syrian People's Assembly Mahmoud al-Abrash called for addressing the world parliaments through the Inter-Parliamentary Union and regional parliaments to pressure their countries' governments to demand the lifting of the siege imposed on Gaza and forming a neutral parliamentary committee to investigate into Israel's crimes against the Freedom Fleet.

During the opening of extraordinary session of Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Countries' member states (PUIC), al-Abrash described procedures taken by Israel under the so-called easing Gaza blockade as "void." He said "our meeting comes as a response to the responsibilities shouldered on us by our peoples to be their conscience during the worst circumstances in which the Palestinian cause is passing through." He called on all the Islamic countries for taking procedures to prevent Israel from committing crimes and using force against civilian flotillas in addition to releasing the detained ships and people who were detained during the aggression on the Freedom Fleet. â€" Emirates News Agency, WAM
