The Applied Technology High School (ATHS) Girls Campus in Abu Dhabi hosted an event where Mrs. Ake Abi, the Japanese Prime Minister's spouse, visited the students who are enrolled in Japanese language courses offered at the school and those who participated in a trip to Japan last year.

At her arrival to the campus, the director of schools, Mr. Kenneth Cadd, along with the school principal, Mrs. Rashida Nachef, and other administration staff and students welcomed the visitors and expressed their great happiness at this important visit. Students greeted the visitors with flowers and a warm, traditional Emirati welcome with dates and coffee.

During the opening ceremony, Mrs. Ake Abi was introduced to the students involved in the school's Japanese Language Programme. This was followed by the Principal's welcome speech in which she stressed on the importance of multi-cultural collaboration in learning. After that, the Grade 10 students spoke in Japanese about their experience in learning the Japanese Language, and the Grade 11 girls delivered a presentation describing their trip to Kyoto, Japan, which took place in the previous summer. Mrs. Ake Abe also gave a speech reinforcing the role of cultural diversity and admired the UAE on encouraging technical education for female Emiratis. She expressed her admiration of the school's interest in teaching the Japanese Language and in students' fluency in the English Language, equally. A discussion in Japanese later ensued between Mrs. Ake Abe and the students about the Japanese Language Course.

At the end of the ceremony, the school administration presented Mrs. Ake Abe with some souvenirs from the United Arab Emirates to commemorate the event and the UAE's heritage and culture. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
