UNRWA Gaza - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said the UAE had set an excellent example for partnership and cooperation with the UN agency in the Palestinian territories. ‘'Next September we will re-open the UAE-financed Jenin Refugee Camp reconstruction project, destroyed by the Israeli occupation army,'' UNRWA Commissioner General Peter Hansen has said in an interview to Emirates News Agency (WAM).

UAE President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has ordered the reconstruction of 800 houses in Jenin camp "equipped with every facility to ease the suffering of the inhabitants, at an estimated cost of US$35 million. Hansen said his agency appealed to the international community to offer 195 million dollars for its 2004 relief programmes in Gaza Strip and West Bank, but ‘'we have only received US$70 million.
