A top-ranking delegation from the island of Jersey, led by its Chief Minister, Senator Frank Walker, is to visit the Gulf next month. The visit is the fourth of its kind in the last five years.

Besides the Chief Minister, the delegation will include Jersey's Minister of Economic Development, Senator Philip Ozouf, the Director General of Jersey's Financial Services Commission, the island's financial regulator, and other Government officials, as well as a team from Jersey Finance, the semi-governmental body responsible for representing Jersey's finance industry. It will be accompanied by a commercial delegation from the finance sector.

The visit begins in Bahrain (4th March - 6th March), continues in Qatar (7th March - 9th March), and then moves to the United Arab Emirates, beginning in Abu Dhabi (10th March - 12th March) and concluding in Dubai, (13th March - 16th March).

During the visits, the Chief Minister and his delegation are expected to meet with senior Government officials and with the Central Banks and Monetary Authorities, to discuss ways of promoting the further development of economic and financial relations between Jersey and the three Gulf states.

In a statement announcing the visit, the Chief Minister said: "I am delighted to be leading Jersey's fourth official delegation to the Gulf states. Since our first visit, in 2002, relations between Jersey and the Gulf have grown substantially while several agreements have been signed or are being negotiated to consolidate ties between the financial regulatory authorities on both sides.

Several Gulf financial institutions have also established offices in Jersey, while a growing number of Jersey firms have set up offices in the Gulf." "I look forward to the opportunity of holding further talks with Government officials in the Gulf on ways in which we can further develop the ties between our countries." Jersey, one of the Channel Islands between Britain and France, is a dependency of the British Crown, but is self-governing and has had its own separate Government for over 800 years.
