The British Channel Island of Jersey will be sending a top-ranking delegation from its Government and Finance Industry to the Gulf in late November, the third such visit in the last three years. The visit will be from 20th-29th November. The delegation will be led by Senator Frank Walker, Jersey's top politician, whose post within the States of Jersey, the Island's Parliament, is equivalent to that of First Minister.

Senator Walker will be accompanied by four officials from Jersey Finance, the part-Government owned promotion body for Jersey's Finance Industry. Accompanying the official team will be a commercial delegation of more than thirty representatives from Finance Industry firms in Jersey, including banks, legal firms and trust companies.

The visit begins in Abu Dhabi, moves on to Dubai, and ends in Bahrain.

At each location, there will be a formal presentation by the Jersey Finance team will meet with local industry professionals. Senator Walker and other members of the official delegation will also meet with senior Government officials to discuss the future development of bilateral links.

Commenting on the visit, Walker said: "Our two previous visits to the Gulf states have played an important part in strengthening ties between Jersey and Gulf, in particular between our Finance Industries. Jersey is committed to the further development of those links, and I am looking forward to meeting with Government officials to identify ways in which we can strengthen our collaboration."

The Jersey Finance Chief Executive, Phil Austin, commented: "We hope to focus primarily on fostering strong relationships with the financial intermediaries in the region. There is no doubt that the Gulf represents one of the most important regions in the world in which Jersey undertakes business and we are delighted to be going back." Jersey is the largest of the British Channel Islands near the coast of France, and has been self-governing under the British Crown for 800 years.

In recent years, it has become one of the world's leading international finance centres. Over 150 billion sterling pounds are currently under deposit in the Island, a significant amount of which comes from the Arabian Gulf. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
