A Kenyan official yesterday spoke of deteriorating humanitarian situation in northern Kenya due to the drought, warning that food and water shortage could lead to mass starvation. Abbas Goled, Secretary General of the Kenyan Red Cross, said his organisation was trying to secure water tankers to provide drinking water in the drought-hit areas of the country.

Goled thanked the UAE Red Crescent Society for sending 70 tonnes of aid that will be distributed to the people in the affected areas. Dr Saleh Musa Al Taei, Director of relief and Emergency who is leading the UAE RCS team in Nairobi, said that a nation-wide campaign will rally support to the people affected by drought in the Horn of Africa.
