Khalifa Charitable Foundation to rebuild school in Gaza
posted on 20/03/2010

Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charitable Foundation, in cooperation with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA), will adopt, rebuild and run a school in Beit Lahiya in the Gaza Strip, it was jointly decided.
The Foundation and UNRWA had held several meetings to discuss the possibility of resuming the educational process in the Mediterranean strip after many of its schools were reduced to rubbles in the Israeli bombings during the war on Gaza.
Almost all schools in Gaza were either fully or partially ruined in the war, according to official statistics.
The school to be rebuilt by the Foundation will be named after HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE.
The project stems from the vision of the Khalifa Charitable Foundation to lend a helping hand to the Palestinian people and give them support in their ordeal by way of contributing to alleviate the humanitarian suffering in Gaza, especially in the areas of healthcare and education.
Gaza, one of the densely populated places on earth, is under Israeli blockade since the second Intifada began ten years ago.
Mohammed Haji Khouri, Director General of the Khalifa Charitable Foundation, said that the Foundation's efforts in Palestine are a fraternal duty towards the Palestinian people given its difficult economic conditions.
"We will spare no effort in promoting the relationship between the Foundation and international institutions and organizations for further implementation of the humanitarian projects that support the weak and the needy", Khouri added.
Ambassador Peter Ford, representative of the Commissioner-General of UNRWA, commented the initiatives and leading humanitarian projects taken up by the Khalifa Foundation, especially its efforts in the fight against poverty, hunger and disease.
He added that the school project in Beit Lahia will ease up the burden and alleviate the sufferings of the students and their parents in that troubled region. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
