The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charity Foundation has delivered more humanitarian assistance to the underprivileged population in Swat Valley in Pakistan as part of an urgent relief operation targeting needy families and refugees.

Fighting between the government forces and rebels in the area has left more than 450,000 people homeless. The UN is expected the number of those displaced to rise to 600,000 within weeks.

A delegation from the Foundation is on the ground there to oversee the distribution of relief items including tents, blankets, and essential foodstuff.

While there, the team has conducted field assessments of the urgent needs of the population who are facing severe economic conditions.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said $ 18.6 million were needed to run relief operations for displaced people in Pakistan. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
