Sumatra - Khalifa Charity Foundation has started distribution of emergency relief supplies among the victims of earthquakes and hurricanes that hit Indonesia early this month causing material and human loss.

The initiative is in implementation of the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and General HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The relief operations are being closely followed up by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

A delegation from Khalifa Charity Foundation stationed on the most affected island of Sumatra is working day and night distributing relief supplies including rice, sugar, cooking oil, tea and other basis food items.

The team also distributed relief kits consisting of blankets, tents, clothes and other materials. More than10 thousand families in various cities and villages on the island of Sumatra have benefitted from the operation.

The Foundation will also look after the maintenance and restoration of mosques and places of worship in addition to the homes destroyed in the disaster.

The Foundation's delegation is in coordination with other agencies and humanitarian organizations and will continue to provide support for relief operations on ground.

The Foundation officials will carry out studies on additional support after identifying areas of urgently needed relief including housing, food and medical assistance.

The aid convoy passed this morning through the villages and towns on the island distributing emergency relief supplies and tents for those who were left without shelter in the wake of the earthquake.

The people in Sumatra welcomed the Foundation volunteers and expressed their gratitude and appreciation for this humanitarian gesture which demonstrates a sincere fraternal feeling on the part of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan towards those affected by the earthquake. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
