Khalifa and Hamad discuss ways to bolster regional security

The leaders of the UAE and Qatar yesterday held talks on mechanisms to enhance bilateral cooperation and relations. The talks, headed by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Qatari Emir His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, focused on the latest regional and international developments. Both sides stressed the importance of security and stability in the region.



Sheikh Khalifa welcomed Sheikh Hamad and said he hoped to see the UAE-Qatari ties progress further in the interests of the two brotherly peoples. He also voiced Abu Dhabi's determination to take these ties to new horizons for greater joint cooperation and coordination and creation of more opportunities in the fields of economy, trade and investments.



The Qatari leader expressed the hope that his visit to the UAE and his talks with Sheikh Khalifa would open up more avenues for bilateral cooperation for achieving the aspirations of the peoples of the UAE and Qatar.



The President later hosted a luncheon in honour of Sheikh Hamad and his delegation. The talks and the banquet were attended by a number of Sheikhs, ministers, senior civilian officials and military officials. Earlier, Sheikh Hamad was welcomed on arrival by Sheikh Khalifa. The President and the Qatari Emir later went on a tour of Abu Dhabi emirate, including the new Corniche, squares and other tourism projects.



Sheikh Hamad said he was impressed with the comprehensive development and prosperity reached by Abu Dhabi in all aspects, and wished the UAE more advancement and affluence.



The two leaders were accompanied on the tour by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Ahmad Juma Al Zua'abi, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs, Abdullah Bin Mohammad Al Othman, the Qatari Ambassador to the UAE, and other officials. Sheikh Khalifa voiced Abu Dhabi's determination to take UAE-Qatar ties to new horizons to create more opportunities in the fields of economy and trade. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
