Khalifa greets Queen on coronation anniversary

Queen Elizabeth II of Britain received yesterday His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, at her residence at Windsor Castle. The Queen welcomed Sheikh Khalifa to Britain. Sheikh Khalifa, on his part, congratulated the Queen on the 50th anniversary of her coronation. He also conveyed to the British monarch the congratulations of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan on the golden jubilee of her coronation and his best wishes for progress and prosperity to the British people.



Earlier, Sheikh Khalifa was received by Prince Andrew, Duke of York, at his residence at Sunninghill Park. Prince Andrew hosted a lunch in honour of Sheikh Khalifa and his accompanying delegation. On Thursday night, Sheikh Khalifa hosted a reception at the Lanesborough Hotel on the occasion of his visit to the UK.



The reception was attended by Prince Charles, heir to the British throne and Prince of Wales, Prince Andrew, a number of British officials and businessmen, members of the delegation accompanying Sheikh Khalifa and the ambassadors of GCC countries. Representatives of British business interests in Abu Dhabi were also present.



Meanwhile, Rashid Abdullah urged the international community to mobilise its resources to help in the reconstruction of Iraq. "Arab and GCC countries should lead the drive for Iraq's reconstruction as the Iraqis need the support of fellow Arabs to overcome their current crisis," Rashid Abdullah told a press conference in London. On Sheikh Khalifa's talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, the minister said the discussions were important. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
