H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, said that UAE " will continue supporting and activating national structure pivots and Shura while preserving its religious, cultural and social peculiarities.”

In a statement to the " Dira'a Al Watan " magazine on the occasion of the UAE's 31st National Day, Sheikh Khalifa hailed " the distinct position UAE Armed Forces are enjoying in the region and their positive and active contribution ", alongside other GCC armies, to the security and stability of the region as well as their participation, through the UN peace-keeping forces, in humanitarian military tasks the world over. "

Although we are eager to keep abreast with the progress attained at global military level, yet we are similarly keen to abide by our values and characteristics,” Sheikh Khalifa confirmed.

We strived, he said, to create a perfect atmosphere for our Armed Forces by equipping them with advanced weapons and providing necessary training to upgrade their skills. Sheikh Khalifa pointed out that the UAE had pursued a moderate and balanced approach to regional and international political changes the world had recently been witnessing and had, therefore, backed the international alliance against terrorism. "

The UAE has also moved to extend a helping hand to the Afghan people who have suffered from war calamities, instability and insecurity for a long time,” he added. Sheikh Khalifa reiterated his country's firm support for the Palestinian people in their struggle against incessant Israeli aggression and for Syria and Lebanon until their occupied territories of Golan Heights and Sheba'a Farms, respectively, are liberated.

On the status quo in Iraq, Sheikh Khalifa said: " We support any initiative aimed at making Iraq and the region avert a new war which will, rather, bring about disasters no lesser in scale than those caused by previous wars.” He expressed the hope that the UN would respond positively to the good will initiative by Baghdad. He called on Iraq to continue facilitating the mission of the international arms inspectors in order to expedite finding a solution to the problem, as the Iraqi people were the ones who "are paying the price.” (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
