Khalifa holds talks with Musharraf

President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks here Saturday at the Al Mushref Palace with Pakistani President, Pervez Musharraf, who is currently on an official visit to the UAE. Sheikh Khalifa, who warmly welcomed President Musharraf and his entourage, wished him successful visit for the mutual interest of the two countries and their peoples.



The UAE President said the UAE and Pakistan, in view of the historic bond of strong friendship between them, always work, on all occasions and during the exchange of visit, to extend the bridge of joint cooperation to a broader scope. The two sides reviewed ways of boosting and enhancing bilateral cooperation. They also reviewed developments in the Middle East region, particularly the Iraqi and Palestinian crisis and reiterated their permanent stance in support of a comprehensive peace process in the region in accordance with the international resolutions.



President Musharraf praised the UAE for achieving such and advanced development in all areas and commended the leading and wise role played by the late UAE founder and leader, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, not only at the UAE level but also at the Arab and Islamic levels, he said.



He expressed appreciation for the UAE's achievements and prosperity and attributed it to Sheikh Khalifa's wise policy, which, he said, had proven its success and had become a model worth emulating. The Pakistani President said his visit to the UAE aims, initially, at laying a new brick of bilateral relations by creating more avenues of cooperation and coordination in various areas with the aim of uplifting these relations to a new height.



Present at the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler's Representative in the Eastern Region, Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Interior Minister, Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a number of sheikhs, ministers and senior officials. Also present on the Pakistani side were the members of the delegation accompanying the Pakistani President, as well as the ambassadors of the UAE and Pakistan. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
