President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a federal decree revising the set-up and functions of the Permanent Borders Committee (PBC). According to the decree, Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan shall join the committee.

The decree replaced text of the article (2) of the federal decree No (71) for 1999 to read as follows: 'The PBC shall give advice to the President and the Vice-President on the country's land and sea borders. 'It shall conduct contacts and negotiations concerning the country's land and sea borders with neighbouring countries and tackle land and sea borders issues with these countries.

The PBC shall give opinion on implementation, by the federal or local authorities or the private sector, of any joint ventures with neighbouring countries. It shall also give advice on effort by any body inside the country to prepare, publish or circulate studies, researches, publications or maps on land and sea borders of the country.

The PBC shall assume any other missions as entrusted to it by the President or Vice-President.

Adding a new article, the decree ordered the federal and local authorities to notify and consult the PBC prior to commencing and implementing any joint project with neighbouring countries or publishing any studies, sending any plans, delivering any information or making any statements to any local or foreign circle, or publish and circulate any maps regarding land and sea borders of the country.
