Khalifa meets Algerian Premier and visits Martyr's Memorial Mausoleum

Algiers - President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan received yesterday Abdel-Aziz Belkhadem, Algerian Prime Minister. The meeting reviewed bilateral relations and ways to enhance them to serve the common interest of the two countries and their two brotherly peoples. Also discussed were issues of mutual concern, as well as current regional and international developments.

Later, Sheikh Khalifa received in separate meetings Speaker of the Algerian Umm Council Abdel-Qadir bin Saleh and Speaker of the Algerian National Peoples Council Abdel-Aziz Ziadi. The Algerian officials expressed pleasure at the historic visit of Sheikh Khalifa and praised the progressive ties between the two countries.

Bin Saleh said in an interview with WAM that the Algerian people value the visit of Sheikh Khalifa which will give a great boost to the bilateral ties between the two countries.

"The visit comes amidst significant developments as Algeria has maintained its regional and international stature and regained its security and stability. The country is also witnessing an extensive development drive, led by President Abdel-Aziz Bouteflika," he said.

Bin Saleh underlined the great role the UAE investments play in the Algerian development programme. He also lauded the support extended by the UAE to Algeria in all times.

Present during the meetings were Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Government Sector Development, Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs, Ahmed Juma Al Za'abi, Chief of Executive Affairs Authority Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, the UAE Ambassador to Algeria, Ahmed Mahmoud Al Hosni and Algerian Ambassador to the UAE Humaid Shibaira.

Accompanied by Belkhadem, Sheikh Khalifa then visited the Martyr's Memorial Mausoleum where he read verses of Quran for the souls of Algerian martyrs and placed a wreath of flowers at the mausoleum.

He also visited the Mujahid National Museum and wrote a note in the visitors book in which he said that the Museum embodies the heroic struggle of the great Algerian people for independence which inspired other nations to break free from the shackles of colonialism. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
