Khalifa meets former US president

President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan received yesterday former US President George Bush (Senior) who is currently visiting the country to attend the Abu Dhabi world leadership summit which opened in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

Sheikh Khalifa welcomed the former US president and informed him about his satisfaction about the progress of the UAE-US relations.

He expressed the hop that the summit would come out with recommendations which contribute to upgrading the socio-economic development and achieve aspired goals.

Bush said that he was glad to be visiting the UAE and meeting with Sheikh Khalifa. He lauded the prudent policy adopted by Sheikh Khalifa especially in dealing with Middle East issues.

The former US leader also praised the progress and development attained by the UAE under the stewardship of Sheikh Khalifa. The two leaders exchanged views on latest regional and international events.. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)

World Leadership Summit held in Abu Dhabi

A gathering of some of the world's most influential speakers joined together yesterday to share strategies for excellence in leadership during the Abu Dhabi World Leadership Summit, held under the patronage of General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The conference, organized by Global Events, was attended by Economy Minister Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Member of Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Affairs Authority, Gerhard Schroder, former Chancellor of Germany, former U.S. President George Bush (Sr.) and Lee Kuan Yew Minister former prime Minister and Mentor of Singapore.

Welcoming guests, Al Mubarak said that Abu Dhabi places education at top of its priorities and that the emirate had started to privatise 30 percent of its public schools.

He said that key elements for leadership and success include patience, competitiveness and management.

Al Mubarak added that evolution and progress must be coupled with efforts to preserve one's traditions and culture.

Schroder called on the world leaders to focus on providing job opportunities and developing free global trade to achieve global security and stability.

He cited GCC countries as a good example for security and stability, adding that monetary union, scheduled for 2010, will further push the region to the forefront of global economy.. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
