His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, yesterday inaugurated the sixth edition of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference IDEX 2003, at the Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre in the presence of King Abdullah of Jordan and General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defence Minister.

Sheikh Khalifa, along with King Abdullah, watched a display by folk troupes and military music bands and, later, live demonstrations of the state-of-the-art military equipment, machinery and vehicles exhibited by the participant countries and companies. Both Sheikh Khalifa and the Jordanian monarch then toured pavilions of the exhibition, including that of Jordan and the King Abdullah Design and Development Centre.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid also inspected a number of pavilions participating in the IDEX 2003. He inspected stalls of the UAE, Britain, U.S., Germany, France and South Africa. He was accompanied by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman of Emirates. Sheikh Mohammed said that the participation of some 800 leading companies in the exhibition testified to the success of the show.

"The excellent organisation this year, and of all previous editions, adds to its success, which has been achieved despite the tense international environment. These exhibitions have achieved their goals and are steadily growing by the year. "The deals signed during these exhibitions are regular and continuous, between the countries and companies. What matters is to get acquainted with specialists in weapons industries." (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
