Khalifa receives Ban Ki-Moon

Riyadh - President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan received here Wednesday UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. They reviewed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest in addition to the UN role in maintaining global peace and stability.



The Middle East conflict and the UN role in this regard was also discussed.



During the meeting, Sheikh Khalifa underlined the need to find a just and lasting settlement to the Palestinian question, based on an independent statehood with Jerusalem as its capital. Sheikh Khalifa also told the UN chief that the Arab Peace Initiative constitutes the framework for comprehensive settlement as it is based on relevant international resolutions.



For his part, the UN chief lauded the humanitarian role played by the UAE in many parts of the world. He specifically hailed the UAE's involvement in the de-mining operations in South Lebanon.



The meeting was attended by Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs in addition to other members of the UAE delegation to the 19th Arab Summit which is currently underway.
