President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was briefed yesterday by Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al Attiya on preparations for holding the 29th GCC summit later this month in Muscat, Oman, under the chairmanship of HM Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed of Oman.

A number of topics concerning the GCC were discussed during the meeting which was attended by H.H. Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. Al Attiya is visiting the UAE as part of a GCC tour.

Sheikh Khalifa affirmed the UAE's determination to boost the GCC march in various fields. The President wished success for the Muscat summit and hoped it would produce recommendations that measure up to aspirations of the GCC peoples for more achievements.

The GCC secretary General termed the Muscat summit as a turning point in the drive of the GCC towards the future.

'The Muscat summit will add fresh momentum to the GCC drive in political, social and economic domains,' he said, noting that the ministerial council and committees had prepared important files for discussion in the two-day summit. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
