Khalifa receives Rohani

President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan received here Tuesday at his Al Bateen Palace the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Hassan Rohani, who is in the country as part of his tour of a number of countries in the region. Rohani conveyed to the UAE President greetings and wishes of good health from Iranian President, Mohammed Khatami, who also wished the UAE and its people more progress and prosperity under the wise leadership of Sheikh Khalifa.



During the meeting, the Iranian official briefed Sheikh Khalifa about his country's opinion on the negotiations with international bodies on Iran's nuclear programme on which Rohani reiterated his country's commitment to all international resolutions.



President Khalifa reiterated the UAE's commitment to achieving stability, security, just, permanent and comprehensive peace, as well as doing away with all situation of tension in the Middle East region, particularly in the Gulf region. He called for support for the development efforts which would ensure progress and prosperity for the peoples of the region.



Sheikh Khalifa stressed on the need for all countries of the world without exception to be committed to eliminating all banned weapons and to work for peaceful resolution of conflicts as per the UN Charter, international law, the principle of mutual respect of regional sovereignty of all countries, peaceful co-existence and taking of measures to build confidence and trust, as well as rejecting the use of force and resorting to peaceful negotiations to resolve any existing conflict.



The UAE President conveyed through Rohani his greetings and wishes of good health to President Khatami and his wishes of more progress and prosperity to the Islamic Republic of Iran and its people. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
