Khalifa to visit Damascus tomorrow

The UAE- Syrian relations have witnessed notable progress in the last few years as can be seen in signing a number of agreements in different fields of trade and economy as well as other fields.

The official visit of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Syria comes as response to the invitation by Bashar Al Assad, the Syrian President to discuss the bilateral relations between the two sisterly countries and look for the best ways to enhance these fraternal relations.

The year 2006 witnessed intensive visit exchange between the two sides culminated in signing a number of agreements in the fields of communications, trade exchange and investment. On the 17th of December 2006, Sheikh Khalifa met with President Bashar in Abu Dhabi and discussed with him different issues of mutual concern.

Then came many fruitful visits by ministers and high -ranking officials from the two sides resulted in signing a variety of agreements in different areas of mutual interest.

The joint UAE - Syrian Ministerial Committee concluded its third session last June by signing initial agreement of nine documents organizing the cooperation between the two countries in various fields .The documents included also an agreement on preparing a draft memo of understanding for cooperation regarding the agreements of the World Trade Organization.

The UAE is executing now a vital project in the fields of communication and information in Syria aiming at promoting the skills of the Syrian graduates and employees in both private and public sectors. Important UAE exports to Syria are rubber, metals chemical products, oil, while the UAE exports vegetables, fruits jewellery and clothes from Syria. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
