Khalifa urges new envoys to leverage UAE's stature

Four new UAE ambassadors to Ethiopia, Australia, Montenegro and Uzbekistan were yesterday sworn in before President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Al Bateen Palace. Sheikh Khalifa directed the new ambassadors towards working sincerely to enhance the UAE's position at the international level.

'While opening up to the world, the government and people of the UAE are building bridges of friendship and cooperation with different peoples of the world, thus enhancing the country's standing and respect at all domains, ' the President said, affirming the UAE sincere desire to boot its relations with various countries of the world in political, economic, cultural and educational fields for building strong joint base of cooperation that serves mutual interest and promotes understanding and interaction.

The President added that the UAE foreign policy is based on firm principles through its commitment and respect to the UN Charter and international laws.

The UAE is establishing its relations with other countries on the principles of mutual respect, non-interference into others' internal affairs, commitment to settling disputes through dialogue and peaceful means and support for issues of right and justice and active contribution to international stability and peace.

'The qualitative progress in our relations with countries of the world places additional burden on our ambassadors and representatives abroad and increase their responsibility in following up these policies of deepening the existing bonds and open up new channels of communications for creating broad opportunities for joint cooperation.

He urged the new envoys to interact positively with experiments of countries they represent the UAE in and draw lessons from them so as to act as real bride of communications with other human cultures and present the UAE heritage and culture to them. He also demanded them to create new channels of liaison with those peoples for the sake of enhancing cultural and humanitarian cooperation and spread of the culture of peace and tolerance.

The President also highlighted the role of the diplomatic missions abroad in offering assistance and care to UAE citizens overseas. Those who took the oath before the President were ambassadors Dr. Yusouf Isa Al Saberi to Ethiopia, Ali Nasser Al Nauimi to Australia, Hafsa Abdullah Al Olma to Montenegro and Mohammed Hareb Al Muhairbi to Uzbekistan. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by a number of Sheikhs, ministers and senior officials. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
