King of Sweden departs Abu Dhabi

King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Honorary President of the World Scout Foundation left Abu Dhabi yesterday capping a several day visit to the country.

He was seen off by H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Sheikh Mohammed bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Dr. Salim Abdul Rahman Al Darmaki, Chairman of the Emirates Scouting Association and leaders of scouting movement.

Before his departure, the King of Sweden visited the tomb of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

In an interview with Emirates News Agency, King Gustaf applauded the progress being experienced by the UAE under leadership of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

He said that he "observed huge progress being witnessed by the UAE in regard to construction boom, modern cities, educational and cultural progress, huge development in tourist sector infrastructure and other giant economic project that woo investors worldwide".

King Gustaf stressed the importance of "Dubai Cares Campaign" launched by Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to educate poor children worldwide, adding that the UAE is well ahead when it comes to charity projects in the fields of education, health and environment.

He described the UAE as a land for religious tolerance, adding that his visit to the UAE aims at boosting the relations between the UAE and Sweden. He added that he was impressed about the efforts of the UAE to safeguard its national identity through preserving heritage.

King Gustaf said that Sweden will host Scouts Conference by 2011 in which 35, 000 boys scouts worldwide will take part. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
