Beirut - Lebanese Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Khalid Qabbani, received at his office yesterday the Director General of the UAE Projects in Support of Reconstruction of Lebanon, Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithy. During the meeting, Qabbani expressed his profound gratitude and deep regards and appreciation to President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his effective contribution to saving the 2006/2007 academic year in Lebanon from total collapse, through Sheikh Khalifa's kind gesture of rebuilding schools which were fully or partially destroyed by the recent Israeli aggression, as well as for providing for free text books for all government school students.

Al Rumaithy presented to the Lebanese minister a full report about his outfit's achievements in the area of rebuilding totally destroyed schools and making repair and maintenance works on partially destroyed ones. He briefed the minister about the future plan of his outfit to complete the projects.

During his recent tour of schools in Southern Lebanon, Qabbani said his ministry had completed distributing coupons for purchasing of text book which the UAE government decided to cover the cost. This would make students in all parts of Lebanon to be able to acquire text books for free at any stationery store they choose to buy those books. He thanked the UAE for offering to pay the cost of those books and for rebuilding the destroyed schools in Southern Lebanon. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
