Lebanese Parliamentary Speaker, Nabih Berri, currently on a visit to the UAE, has praised the policies of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the UAE President's continuous support for Lebanon.

Speaking to the Lebanese community members in the UAE during a meeting here in Abu Dhabi, Berri, who is also the Speaker of the Arab Parliamentary Union, APU, said he was here to convey a message of love and appreciation to the UAE and its founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose support for the Lebanese people in all conditions continued unabated, adding that he was also in the country to convey similar message to the sons of Sheikh Zayed who remained loyal to his ideology and his unity model, which, he described as the most successful unity model in the Arab world.

He pointed out that his visit to the UAE aimed at discussing the way forward to the setting up of Arab Parliament, the challenges facing the Arab countries, the best way to boost joint Arab actions and relations between the UAE and Lebanon.

He criticised what he called "international resolution authority" which, he said, continued to regard Israel an exceptional case whereas it continues to put pressure on the victim - Lebanon - to disarm the resistance group at a time when Israel continued its violation of Lebanon's airspace and land with impunity.

He said the Lebanese resistance was still necessary so long as the Israelis continue to occupy a portion of the Lebanese land, adding that investigations in the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister, Rafiq Al Hariri, will remain open until the full truth is uncovered and perpetrators of the heinous crime brought to justice.

He stressed on the importance of remaining committed to the Lebanese-Syrian relations and warned against mistaking a friend for a foe. He urged all Lebanese to fully cooperate in the building of Lebanon by making concessions in the interest of their country by putting the interest of the state before any parochial interest. He expressed optimism on the future of Lebanon. Berri expressed profound gratitude to President Khalifa for the good treatment being accorded the Lebanese community in the UAE.

Earlier before Berri delivered his speech, Lebanese Ambassador, Hassan Berro, delivered a keynote address in which he expressed the profound gratitude of his country and people to the UAE President, government and people for their continuous support to Lebanon. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
