A delegation of 13 major business officials and senior representatives from the United Kingdom led by Lord Mayor of the city of London Alderman Nick Anstee, visited Zayed University's Abu Dhabi campus yesterday, where they held round table discussions with around 40 students, on several topics in investment, banking, accountancy, insurance policies, and legal issues.

Dr. Dan Johnson, Provost of Zayed University, said: "We are delighted to receive the Lord Mayor and the UK delegation on our campus, and we look forward to the results of the discussions our students are participating in with senior representatives of investment banks, asset managers, insurers and law firms, as this is a great opportunity for them to get an in-depth knowledge and increase their awareness of London as a global financial centre".

Addressing the students, the Lord Mayor of the City of London Nick Anstee said: "The UK remains an excellent place to work in banking and finance. London has so much to offer I believe that experience gained in London in particular in the business sector will be especially valuable to bring to your career here in Abu Dhabi or wherever life takes you."

The Lord Mayor emphasised the wide range of training available in London in organisations such as the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment and said: "London has 55 different training institutes that offer Sharia-compliant finance training, more than anywhere else in the world. He added that despite recent difficulties, the UK is still one of the best places in the world to work in financial and business services and London remains a world-leading financial centre: 19% of international bank lending makes the UK largest in the world for cross border banking; it is Europe's largest investment banking centre and is top for global trading in OTC derivatives.

The Lord Mayor also discussed with Dr Dan Johnson Provost of ZU, different prospects of collaboration in several areas of common interest between the City and Zayed University. The meeting was also attended by H.E Edward Oakden, British Ambassador to UAE, Dr.Jeffrey Belnap Associate Provost, Dr. Bob Cryan Associate Provost, Academic and International Affairs and Dr. Rex Taylor Associate Provost, Program Development, Engagement and Operations.

During a press conference, the Lord Mayor of the city of London Alderman Nick Anstee explained that choosing Zayed University's students to take part in the round table discussions with business officials and senior representatives from the UK, was based on the reputation that the university enjoys regionally and internationally for offering a very high quality of education that prepares future business leaders, and for the name of the University's founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
