Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, Head of the UAE Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Foreign Aid, and President of Zayed University, has said that celebrating Flag Day holds special significance, where the people and residents of the United Arab Emirates unite around one symbol, and make every effort to elevate it and keep it aloft, under the wise philosophy and clear vision of our wise leadership represented by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

She added, in a statement, "If accomplishments should carry a title and slogan, the flag of the state becomes a form of identity it boasts among world states, and a symbol of sovereignty, cohesion, and the unification of citizens around their leadership."

Sheikha Lubna said that UAE Flag Day commemorates the moment when President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan acceded to the presidency. Throughout his leadership, "we have witnessed successive achievements across the seven Emirates. The UAE flag reflects the spirit of a state that, despite its young Union, has fascinated the whole world with its achievements. Our nation has earned worldwide respect from fellow nations and the development partners with whom we collaborate. We continue to set higher targets in our mission to alleviate suffering around the world, supporting international development efforts – especially for the people who most need help."

The Minister said that "we can raise our heads with pride when we witness the UAE flag flying among humanitarian relief convoys to people affected by humanitarian crises and disasters. We also see it flying in various development projects funded by the United Arab Emirates to help developing countries, as well as in international forums concerned with international development, humanitarian aid, and other areas, in which the United Arab Emirates play an influential and effective role."

"We remember when the UAE flag rose for the first time in December 1971, announcing the establishment of our blessed ever-evolving union to be handed down and written in the collective memory of future generations, speaking of the great cohesion of our leaders under a fluttering banner: the UAE flag."

She added that the hands of "our early founders and Rulers of the Emirates, led by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of our state, united around the values of national unity and cohesion, together with his fellow founding Rulers of the Emirates, in order to elevate the status of the UAE high, and the achievements of our dear nation, which will hopefully continue to prosper under its current wise leadership."

Sheikha Lubna concluded, "This Flag Day, we renew our pledge to our leadership to do our best so the UAE flag can continue to fly high as an emblem and symbol of achievement and leadership of the Emirati people and the state." – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395287458016.html
