Lubna Al Qasimi explores cooperation in humanitarian affairs with Norway

Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Development and International Co-operation, has received Hans Brattskar, Minister of State in the Norway Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, Sheikha Lubna explored ways to enhance cooperation between UAE and Norway, improve efforts of international and humanitarian development, and enhance the partnership between the two countries.

Sheikha Lubna asserted that UAE is looking forward to enhancing the partnership and means of cooperation, in addition to exchanging experience with all countries around the world and entities concerned with international and humanitarian development, combining efforts in order to tackle humanitarian issues, especially improving the indicators of response to humanitarian crises and disasters, as well as improving the livelihood and quality of life in communities in need.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed their progress in mutual cooperation, results of previous visits and bilateral meetings and progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), e.g. Education, Health and other development and humanitarian issues.

The Norwegian Minister affirmed the keenness of his country on enhancing mutual cooperation with the UAE in all international humanitarian and development forums in light of the honourable position that the UAE has attained as one of the most generous donor countries and its outstanding and comprehensive indicators in providing aid and support to all affected regions around the world, commending the help and response that UAE has extended to affected people in the Syrian crisis.

He also gave a presentation of Norway's efforts in this regard, highlighting the efforts made by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), a Norwegian organisation concerned with humanitarian and development work.

The meeting was attended by Hazza Al Qahtani, Under-Secretary of the Minister of Development and International Co-operation, and Najla Al Kaabi, Assistant Under-Secretary, and on the Norwegian side, Sten Anders Berge, Norway's Ambassador to the UAE, and a number of Norwegian government officials. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
