Lubna Al Qasimi holds meetings with Hillary Clinton and William Burns

Washington D.C. - Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade, has held a meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as part of her current visit to the United States and discussed bilateral ties, commercial and investment cooperation and the ways to boost them in order to achieve the common interests of both friendly countries.

Sheikha Lubna stressed on the fact that the United Arab Emirates is considered the United States' number one trade partner in the Middle East, pointing out that the volume of non-oil trade between both countries has reached over US$12 billion.

She also affirmed that the strong ties that exist between both countries are the real foundation for developing true partnerships in all fields, especially in trade, economics and investment. She also spoke with Mrs. Clinton about the available multi-sector investment opportunities in the UAE, especially in Industry, Renewable and Clean Energy, and Services (including hospitality and financial ones), affirming that the UAE market possesses many different opportunities that satisfy the expansion and growth requirements of American companies in the region.

The UAE minister also underlined the advanced performance of the UAE's economy, with its dynamic commercial and investment activities, affirming that the UAE is keen on continuously developing the economic and investment laws in order to increase the competitiveness and performance of the national economy and to continue to attract direct foreign investments.

She also underlined the UAE's advanced global commercial ranking, which relies primarily on an advanced national infrastructure, highly competitive services and an ideal geographic location.

For her part, Mrs. Clinton praised the strong ties that exist between the United Arab Emirates and the United States, affirming her country's keenness on strengthening these partnership ties even further, especially in economics and commerce.

She also expressed her happiness at the Minister of Foreign Trade's visit, adding that it contributes towards strengthening commercial ties between both countries.

Sheikha Lubna also held talks with William Burns, the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, where both sides discussed UAE-US bilateral ties and means by which to strengthen them commercially.

She pointed out to the efforts exerted by the state to increase the UAE's competitiveness through developing the country's infrastructure, cross-border trade, transportation and providing a good business climate, which has contributed towards attracting a large number of investors from around the world.

Burns underlined the importance of intensifying cooperation between the governments of both countries in order to further strengthen the existing commercial partnership, affirming Mrs. Clinton's wish to continue working closely with the UAE in all fields at present, and in the future.

Yousef Al Otiebah, the UAE's Ambassador in Washington, Juma Al Kait, the Executive Director of Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Trade, and So'oud Al Nuwies, the Commercial Attach ' of the UAE Embassy in Washington were also present. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
