Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, Head of the UAE Committee for Coordination of Humanitarian Aid, confirmed that providing education opportunities for people in developing countries and poor communities has become a key requirement in light of the recently-adopted 2030 Agenda and its accompanying Sustainable Development Goals. As a tool to overcome challenges and cultivate knowledge-based economies, education has become fundamental to achieving sustainable development.

This came as part of Sheikha Lubna's statement during her participation in the second meeting of the International Committee of Financing for Global Education, held yesterday in London, where she was official inducted as a member of the Committee in honor of the UAE's leadership in foreign assistance. The Committee highlighted the UAE's efforts in the education sector as a major part of the campaign to achieve both the 2015 Millennium Development Goals and the newly-established Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.

The meeting been attended by the Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg, Michelle Bachelet, President of the Republic of Chile, Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia, and Peter Mutharika, Malawi President.

The Committee discusses the mechanisms necessary to create educational opportunities for people in developing countries and poor communities, as well as the millions of children who drop out of school annually around the world. It also addresses the educational needs of refugees and displaced persons, and develops scenarios to help catalyse education efforts to further promote economic growth and stability. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395290900507.html
