Minister of Foreign Trade HE Sheikha Lubna bint Khaled Al Qasimi asserted yesterday that UAE feels the responsibility towards facing the global challenge of the increasing demand for energy.

Addressing the third Arab - Chinese businesspersons' conference, which commenced yesterday in the southern Chinese city of Hangzhou, Sheikha Lubna said that UAE's position, capabilities and the volume of its investment in the field of renewable energy stand testimony to this commitment.

Sheikha Lubna said that the UAE government has adopted a set of policies and programmes to preserve the sources of renewable energy. Among them are the application of clean technologies in oil and gas production, as well as its efforts in the field of sustainable production and development.

Citing the Masdar City initiative as an example, Sheikha Lubna said that it is considered the most ambitious project on the global level to set up a sustainable city without depleting the nature.

The three daylong event is held in the context of the Sino- Arab Cooperation forum. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
