Lubna affirms private sector's importance in int'l development

Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, yesterday

received a delegation from Hewlett-Packard (HP) led by Sue Barsamian, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Global Sales and Operations for HP's Enterprise Group.

At the meeting, discussed ways and mechanisms of boosting the role of the global private sector in developing international partnerships with donor countries and organizations that provide foreign and development aid.

During the meeting, she asserted that United Arab Emirates, based on its growing contributions day after day in all development and humanitarian action aspects, is aware of the pressing need to build bridges of cooperation and strategic partnerships with all entities, including private sector entities, especially the cross-continent companies. Citing the importance of achieving the integration and enhancing the added-value via these partnerships, considering the crucial importance of the private sector globally and turning the world into a small village.

The minister also affirmed the necessity of adopting these entities to agendas that support and back the contributions of the governments, humanitarian and development organizations aiming to mitigate the impact of man-made crises and disasters that many countries worldwide are suffering from.

The meeting also addressed ways of boosting modern technologies' role in all international development and humanitarian action aspects, by providing a flexible and updated database for the humanitarian situation in the developing and underprivileged countries, considering the importance of information in directing and channelling the assistance and delivering them to the target recipients rapidly.

In return, the senior HP official asserted her company's anticipation for boosting its partnership with UAE in fields of development and humanitarian action, appraising the advanced positions that UAE has achieved in the development and humanitarian field, and attaining the 16th position as the largest development aid donor worldwide. Commending the success that UAE has achieved in building an international development community that attracts various nationalities to live in peace and welfare.

She briefed Sheikha Lubna on HP's efforts in the development field in various African countries and in other developing countries proceeding from its sense of social responsibility. Wherein the company has introduced the "Social Innovation Development Programme", as a development programme supports the development in these countries. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
